Generation II and Mini-Aéro aeroponic systems:
solid, productive, innovative solutions from HGDi

How is an aeroponic system different from a hydroponic system?

Instead of proceeding by periodic flooding or continual water delivery as do conventional hydroponic systems, aeroponic systems briefly and periodically vaporize plant roots with nutritive solution. In this way, the root area remains very well-ventilated. This is why the plants obtain a well-developed root structure that allows considerable acceleration of plant growth without affecting the development of foliage, flowers or fruits.

Aeropony is an experimental technique used for over 20 years. If you have had the occasion to visit EPCOT Centre in Florida, you have been able to observe large-scale use of aeropony in the Agriculture and Food Pavilion. Adaptation of this technology to small domestic gardens has taken multiple forms: ducts, tubes, basins, etc.

At HGDi, we understand that the secret of every aeroponic system, large and small, consists in facilitating full root system development. That is why HGDi has developed two innovative aeroponic systems: the Generation II and Mini-Aéro aeroponic gardens. These gardens use deep basins and judicious placement of vaporization valves to give the roots all the space they need for full development while ensuring they do not sit in the nutritive solution.

The Generation II system has several advantages:

  • it has solid construction and easy maintenance, permitting high yields, harvest after harvest,
  • the basins may be positioned in many ways in order to adapt to the dimensions and forms of different growth rooms. On each rectangular basin, the plants are positioned in order to ensure intense use of light for maximal yields,
  • a single pump is able to sustain up to 6 basins.

The Mini-Aéro system represents an economical yet dependable compromise for a first experience in aeroponic gardening. Main features are:

  • they are compact, from 2' x 1.5' for a basic 9 site system up to a maximum of 6' x 4' for a 54 site/6 basin system. Ideal for a small-size grow room.
  • system assembly is very simple with clear and easy-to-follow instructions. Operation and maintenance are also simple. There is no glued part, all sections can be easily fixed or removed.
  • a single pump is able to sustain up to 6 basins.
