A CONSTANTLY EVOLVING TECHNOLOGY : HOW TO FIND IT'S WAY ?

At Hydroculture Guy Dionne, we have selected only those well proven growing systems known to be simple, economical, reliable and robust. We believe that the best system is the one which will be adapted to your skill and your knowledge and will give you the opportunity to grow your way and at your own pace. That is why we have developped a full line of hydroponic systems, from the robust and proven systems (ebb and flow and NFT systems) to more sophisticated aeroponic systems.

For each technology, our specialists have developped and selected most robust and efficient parts and components. We have also selected only highest quality substrates, nutrients and additives. These fine products are backed by Hydroculture Guy Dionne's complete product warranty and expert advise, which have made the reputation of Hydroculture Guy Dionne for more than 10 years, both in Montreal and Quebec City.

Main advantages and inconveniencies of most popular systems may be summerized as follows:

Flood ("Ebb & Flow") Systems

Advantages: lower cost price, maximal lamp use, no height constraints, good yield per square meter, well-documented method, most versatile system.

Inconveniences: rockwool purchase with each new growth, requires regular maintenance, both of the plants (thinning, pruning, sizing, etc.) and of the table (cleaning).

Continuous Irrigation Systems

Advantages: fewer plants for the same yield, reusable substrate, little maintenance, no size-restriction on the plants, no salt accumulation on the roots, better oxygenation of the roots, roots always protected, solid and durable construction.

Inconveniences: higher initial cost price, requires more lighting

Aeroponic Systems

Advantages: optimal use of growth surface, maximal oxygenation of the roots, no physical restriction to root development, faster growth rate

Inconveniences: Requires more sustained attention. Initially more expensive. That is why HGDi has developped its new Mini-Module Aero: an economical yet dependable compromise for your first experience in aeroponic gardening.

Rockwool or Coco Fiber ?

In HYDROPONICS, the use of rockwool has obvious advantages. It has better water retention while maintaining an optimal air/water ratio. It also preserves the system's sterility while the coco fiber introduces organic matter with the risk it can bring (parasite, fungi). Rockwool is sligthly cheaper than coco fiber by approximately 30%.

In soil (indoor & outdoor), coco fiber initiates good soil structure which brings porosity and healthy microbial activity.
